S1 Science Course
What will you be learning?
Pupils in S1 study Science within the whole school context of Origins.
We explore the big question 'where do we come from?' from a scientific perspective. Pupils find out about the formation of the Universe, the beginnings of life and how humans have evolved from the simple cell. They consider how humans use technology to monitor and measure health and debate many of the ethical dilemmas that advances in Science present us with (in particular Stem cell technology and fertility treatments).
The Science course is interactive, filled with practical and theoretical activities and requires pupils to think, discuss and enjoy.
The narrative of learning in S1 flows into the S2 Science course.

Homework
Science homework is designed and issued by the class teacher. Homework allows pupils to show their understanding of the Science that we have covered in class and deepens knowledge by asking them to research further information and different opinions.
Each month, pupils are likely to be issued with two homework exercises. One of these will be skills based to enhance the numerical skills that are important for Science. The other will take a variety of formats to demonstrate understanding of the scientific concepts being are covered in class. All homework exercises will be detailed on Show my Homework when issued and plenty of time is given to ask for help in between the date issued and due.
Please click on the 'Numeracy homework' link below to see the numeracy skills homework for each month of the S1 course. Pupils should complete these exercises in their yellow numeracy jotters using the help guides provided by their teacher.
